By the end of 2021, Polestar’s global presence will grow from nine to 18 markets. In addition, the number of retail spaces will be doubled by the end of the year, with more than 100 locations including the new “Polestar Destinations” concept. Significant further market growth is expected until 2022, supported by the expansion of the service locations.
The Swedish electric car brand Polestar continues its rapid expansion. In 2021, Polestar will be launching in nine new markets, increasing its presence to 18 markets worldwide. The number of stationary locations worldwide will also double by the end of the year.
In addition to Polestar Spaces’ established and verified retail approach, which are typically found in city centres, the electric car brand is also introducing the so-called “Polestar Destinations”. Both Polestar Spaces and Polestar Destinations offer those interested the same experience-oriented access to engaging themselves in the Polestar electric car brand and take a test drive. In the future, destinations will be located in more extensive, easily accessible locations outside the city. In addition, you will also handle the vehicle handover to end consumers in the event of a purchase.
“We are expanding extremely quickly both in markets in which we are already present and in new markets. For an electric car brand that has only been in business for just over twelve months, this type of footprint is unprecedented,” said Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. “Our goal is to grow at a comparable rate in 2022 and to open up new markets. This constant expansion in combination with our new retail concept will help exceed our owners’ expectations. ”
The Polestar’s physical presence will grow to around 100 locations worldwide, including some temporary pop-up areas.
“Our focus is on enabling customers to interact with our brand and our vehicles according to their wishes. Physical locations support a redesigned online shopping environment to increase both awareness and sales,” said Mike Whittington, Head of Sales at Polestar. “Our new destination concept gives customers even more access to the brand and fits particularly well with some of our newer markets.”
After the Polestar Spaces in Düsseldorf (Berliner Allee 51-53) and Cologne (Neumarkt 2-4), which were established in 2020, Polestar in Germany now also has Polestar Spaces in Hamburg (Hohe Bleichen 8), Stuttgart (Kronprinzstraße 6), Munich (Färbergraben 16 ) and Frankfurt am Main (Große Eschenheimerstraße 14). The Polestar Space in Berlin (Neue Schönhauserstraße 3-5) will open in August. In addition to the Spaces, Polestar will open two Polestar Destinations in Germany this year, one of them in the east of the country. Furthermore, the network of so-called test drive hubs has also been expanded so that contactless test drives at 15 different locations in Germany can now be arranged with just a few clicks.
Polestar’s digital sales model allows customers to discover, configure and buy a vehicle on their devices – whenever and wherever they want. You don’t have to visit space to do so, even if the brand is aware of the importance of discovering the vehicles for yourself and taking test drives. This is why around 60 additional test drive locations worldwide will be put into operation by the end of 2021 to implement supplementary access to Polestar electric vehicles. The customer handover centres are also being expanded rapidly.
After the purchase, the physical connection to the brand continues in the service and maintenance phase. There are currently over 650 service points in the Polestar stores, 125 of them in Germany alone. By the end of 2021, there should be more than 780 service points.
Polestar manufactures two electric cars. The Polestar 1 is a small series, a powerful, electric hybrid car with a carbon fibre body, 609 hp, 1,000 Nm and a purely electric range of 124 km (WLTP) – the best value of a hybrid car worldwide. The Polestar 2 is the company’s first fully electric car. The Polestar 2 model range includes three variants with a combination of batteries with a long and standard range of up to 78 kWh and twin and single motor drive trains with up to 300 kW / 408 PS and 660 Nm.
In the future, Polestar 3 as an electric SUV and Polestar Precept – a study vehicle presented in 2020 that is to go into production – will be added to the portfolio. With Precept, Polestar offers its future vision in terms of sustainability, digital technology and design. In addition, in April 2021, Polestar announced the ambitious plan to create a genuinely climate-neutral car without CO2 compensation by 2030.
